As a byproduct of the recent Asset Efficiency upgrade Skyspark Analytics software was installed in conjunction with the installation of the new Building Management System. The software as well as monitoring all of the power consumption of the centre’s services also monitors the operating points of the centre’s Building Management System and automatically highlights any unusual activities.
Skyspark automatically detected a mismatch of the fan status and time schedule of the Air Handling Unit. From
this, a ‘spark’ was generated which when investigated confirmed that the unit had been left in manual mode thus overriding time schedule.
If this occurrence was not identified and acted upon, the additional energy consumption and operating cost over the
course of the year could have been significant.
