On International Women in Engineering Day, we’re proud to highlight the career of Jenny Wong, Service Manager for Airmaster NSW – Northeast, and share how an engineering background can open the door to diverse and rewarding opportunities.
Jenny holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Economics, a foundation that has taken her from technical engineering roles through to national leadership positions. Since moving to Australia in 1999, she has worked across the utilities and building services sectors, applying her skills to high- impact, high-responsibility roles.

Today, Jenny leads a team overseeing a combination of building services of HVAC, electrical and fire services for commercial and retail buildings.
From managing HVAC and fire compliance
in high-rise buildings, to supporting technician development and solving complex operational challenges, her work has a direct and lasting impact.
Throughout her career, Jenny has worked in environments where women are underrepresented. Rather than letting that define her experience, she focused on building strong relationships, staying solution- oriented, and delivering high-quality outcomes - earning respect through consistency and capability.
Jenny’s journey includes leading national projects, managing site-critical infrastructure, and mentoring others coming up through the ranks. Her leadership and dedication saw her named Account Manager of the Year, followed by a promotion to her current Service Manager role.
Her advice to other women pursuing engineering careers?
“Engineering is universal and is based on the application of physics, chemistry, biology, geology, mathematics and a variety of physical sciences aimed toward solving specific applied problems. Many engineers that I met in my student years and working life make good world citizens. The education, within itself, provides training in systems, analysis and a logical approach to solving problems and executing solutions to those problems. I believe that this is why all engineers have the potential to become outstanding managers if that is their wish.”
No matter the industry you are in, or the type of engineering degree you hold, let your engineering mindset take the lead and follow it with confidence. If your passion is science and art, then engineering is the right choice for you.”
Reflecting on this year’s theme, Together We Engineer, Jenny shared:
“Engineering has always been about systems, analysis and a logical approach to solving problems in collaboration with others - bringing together different ideas, skills, and perspectives to solve complex problems.
For me, working in HVAC is no different. Whether it's with technicians, clients, or support teams, it’s the shared effort that drives progress. Together is how we get things done.”
Jenny’s story is a great reminder that an engineering background doesn’t lock you into one path, it opens many.
