Meet Andrew and Shane from Airmaster Fire Victoria.
When you work in fire protection, having deep technical knowledge and regulatory understanding is essential. But for some members of our Airmaster Fire team, their connection to fire safety runs even deeper.
Victorian based Fire Maintenance Manager Andrew Scoular and Dry Fire Estimator Shane Carey are both active CFA volunteers in their communities, bringing with them not only years of firefighting experience, but also a practical understanding of how fires unfold, how people respond, and the importance of well-maintained safety systems. While their CFA work is entirely separate from their roles at Airmaster, the insights gained from these experiences naturally influence the way they approach their professional responsibilities.

Andrew, a member of the Plenty CFA for over eight years, serves as an operational firefighter with specialist training in road accident and rope rescues. He also mentors junior brigade members, fostering the next generation of emergency responders. At Airmaster, Andrew leads the delivery of fire maintenance services, ensuring that essential safety measures remain operational and compliant throughout the life of a building.
“Being a CFA volunteer means I’ve seen first-hand what happens when systems are called upon in a real emergency,” Andrew says.
“That perspective drives how I approach fire maintenance - because I know the importance of every component functioning exactly as it should. It’s not just about ticking off compliance; it’s about making sure our clients are genuinely prepared when it matters most.”
This practical awareness supports better asset management and maintenance outcomes, particularly for passive elements and portable equipment that must perform reliably in an emergency.
Shane’s 18 years with the Yarragon CFA includes operational, leadership and communications roles, as well as specialist accreditation as a Ground Observer. He has also received two National Emergency Medals for service during the Black Saturday and Black Summer fires. These experiences have shaped his understanding of fire behaviour and its impact on people and buildings.
In his role at Airmaster, Shane applies this knowledge to the design and specification of dry fire systems - including fire panels, detection systems, alarms and communication interfaces.
“Understanding how fire behaves in different environments helps me tailor dry fire solutions that are both compliant and genuinely practical,” Shane explains. “It’s about supporting safe evacuation, minimising disruption, and protecting what matters.”
From system planning through to performance testing, Shane brings a methodical and considered approach, grounded in both technical expertise and a strong understanding of risk.
Andrew shares a similar mindset when it comes to fire maintenance:

“Whether I’m in the field with the CFA or overseeing a client’s fire safety program, the mindset is the same… Look ahead, know your systems, and make sure everything is ready for when it’s needed.”
Outside of work, Andrew is also preparing to take on the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb to raise funds for mental health support and emergency services. You can follow and support his journey here.
*CFA service is undertaken voluntarily and independently of Airmaster.
